The Virginia Wilderness Committee is gearing up to celebrate 50 years of the Wilderness Act in 2014 by highlighting each of Virginia's 24 Wilderness areas over the course of the next year. VWC has been the driving force behind federal legislation to permanently protect these special places.
VWC Field Director Mark Miller wants to make it easy for folks across the Commonwealth and beyond to get acquainted with Virginia's Wilderness areas. He will be visiting each and every Wilderness, taking photos, and writing up descriptions that will make these wild places come alive. Mark is also recommending good access points and hikes in each area. If you are intrigued, please take your family and friends and go visit these gems of Virginia's natural heritage. Mark's first visit was to Shawvers Run Wilderness in Craig County. Read all about it and stay tuned for more!
