Jefferson National Forest

VWC worked to enact the Virginia Ridge and Valley Bill for the Jefferson National Forest from 2002 until it was signed into law  by the President as part of the Omnibus Public Lands Act of 2009.  The bill was the result of a collaborative effort by Rep. Rick Boucher, former Sen. John Warner, their staff, and many local, regional and national environmental and recreational organizations.  Enactment of Ridge and Valley Act was a momentous occasion in the history of Virginia Wilderness, and we are still celebrating!
New Wilderness and National Scenic areas added by the Ridge and Valley Act:
  • Bear Creek National Scenic Area
  • Brush Mountain East Wilderness Area
  • Brush Mountain Wilderness Area
  • Garden Mountain Wilderness Area
  • Hunting Camp Creek Wilderness Area
  • Lynn Camp Creek Wilderness Study Area
  • Raccoon Branch Wilderness Area
  • Seng Mountain National Scenic Area
