Current Wilderness Campaigns

Picture

The Virginia Wilderness Committee has been instrumental in every Wilderness campaign in Virginia. Our most recent success was passage of the Virginia Ridge and Valley Act for areas in the Jefferson National Forest in 2009.  The attached map shows all Virginia Wilderness and National Scenic Areas.

We are currently working on adding Wilderness and National Scenic areas in the George Washington National Forest.

  • Jefferson National Forest (Read about the areas protected by the Virginia Ridge and Valley Act of 2009.)
  • George Washington National Forest: (Read about our current campaign to protect Shenandaoh Mountain and other special places in the GWNF and read about our collaborative work with forest stakeholders.)
