Adams Peak Proposed Wilderness
Approximate Size: 7071 acres
Location: Rockbridge County, Virginia in the Pedlar District
Adams Peak is located west of Fairfield and to the northwest of Irish Creek, and is an officially inventoried Forest Service Roadless area. At 7071 acres, Adams Peak is an outstanding candidate for a National Scenic Area. There are significant stands of old growth located throughout the area, with several stands dating back to the mid 1800's.
Adams Peak borders the Nature Camp, which has been in existence for many years and utilizes the Adams Peak area for many of its camp activities. An NSA designation would allow these activities to continue. There is also significant mountain biking activity on the Whetstone Ridge Trail, and an NSA designation would allow this activity to continue. Further, we would request that access to FDR 104 remain as it is and that signage be placed at the entrance to Nature Camp directing NSA visitors to access the NSA via FDR 104.
